Requirements

The CMA segment of this prestigious program is open to all students accepted into RMC's MBA program. However, students entering the program without a university degree will not qualify unless they meet additional conditions specified by the CMA Ontario.  CMA Ontario's Accreditation Advisors at 1-800-387-2991 for further information.

CMA Accelerated Program

The CMA Accelerated Program is seven months. Lecture sessions are held on Saturdays and provide an in-depth look at management and financial accounting as well as the strategic business thinking required to make sound, leadership decisions. Individuals can opt to take the program via distance learning. An overall 60% is required to pass the Accelerated Program. This material forms the content of the Entrance Examination that will be administered upon completion of the program. Additional preparation and study time are required.

The CMA Canada Entrance Exam and Case Exam

You will write the Entrance Examination in June 2010 or October, 2010. This is a four-hour, multiple-choice exam where you will be examined on management accounting, financial accounting, corporate tax and financial management topics. You must achieve a 60% passing mark. CMA provides a Preparation Program that reviews all course material and provides copies of past examinations.

In May, 2010 or August 2010, you will write the CMA Case Examination which is based on your analysis of a complex business case. The process evaluates your higher level skills of judgment, analysis, evaluation, integration and communication. Two days prior to the Case Exam, you will be given a backgrounder on a hypothetical organization with the remainder to be provided on exam day. A passing grade of 60% and higher must be achieved in both the CMA Entrance Exam and the Case Exam. You are permitted three attempts for each of the CMA Entrance Exam and the Case Exam. Candidates are encouraged to complete the CMA Ontario Entrance Exam Preparation Program prior to writing the Entrance Exam. Although it’s preferable to attempt the CMA Entrance Examination immediately following the completion of the MBA studies; candidates may defer the CMA Entrance Examination and Case Exam until the next offering. Candidates must attempt the CMA Entrance Exam and Case Exam within 17 months of completing the RMC MBA program.

CMA Board Report:

After passing the CMA Entrance Exam and the Case Exam, candidates must demonstrate that their business and accounting knowledge can be put to practical use by completing a written CMA Canada Board Report that’s also to be verbally presented. You will be given a module that provides case history information and the guidelines to help ensure a successful outcome. The written portion of the CMA Canada Board report, which is to be marked nationally, must be submitted by the first week of June. The verbal version – to be presented to a panel of CMA Ontario members – will be scheduled in late June or early July and assessed by CMA Ontario. You must achieve a pass mark of 60% for the overall process.

The Accelerated Program, Entrance Examination, Case Examination and Board Report Process for the CMA Designation must be completed within 36 months immediately following their MBA studies. Exceptions to this timing requirement may be granted on an individual basis upon application.
