
Combined Master’s Program
Application The CMA segment of this prestigious program is open to all students accepted into the University of Ottawa’s MBA program. Individuals that qualify for the Combined Program must successfully complete the Accelerated Program and then successfully write the Entrance Exam, Case Exam, Board Report and presentation. CMA Accelerated Program: The CMA Accelerated Program is seven months. Lecture sessions are held on Saturdays and provide an in-depth look at management and financial accounting as well as the strategic business thinking required to make sound, leadership decisions. Individuals can opt to take the program via distance learning. An overall 60% is required to pass the Accelerated Program. This material forms the content of the Entrance Examination that will be administered upon completion of the program. Additional preparation and study time are required. The CMA Board Report: Candidates are assigned to teams with other University of Ottawa’s MBA CMA students and must complete a comprehensive Board Report. This process is overseen by CMA Ontario which sets the guidelines and provides the case information to be analyzed and strategically applied to a hypothetical company. Your team is required to combine its findings into a written report which is marked nationally (June). Your team must then make a formal presentation to a Board of Directors comprised of CMA Ontario members who also grade it. You must achieve a 60% mark in both the written and verbal elements. CMA Entrance Exam: Combined program candidates will be required to write the CMA Entrance Exam. The objective of the CMA Entrance Examination is to ensure candidates have mastered technical skills in management accounting, financial accounting, financial management and taxation from the prerequisite courses. The Entrance Examination is held twice each year, in mid-June and mid-October. The exam is four hours in duration and is comprised of approximately 120 multiple choice questions. The pass mark for the exam is 60%. Candidates must pass the Entrance Examination to receive their designation. Your final mark will be confidentially posted on the CMA Canada website about eight week after it is written. CMA Case Examination: Candidates/students are required to write the CMA Case Exam. This four-hour exam will test a candidate's understanding of the competencies and the higher order skills of strategic thinking, analysis, integration, judgment and written communication introduced thus far in the program. This exam will be offered twice per year, in May and August. To pass you must achieve a mark of 60%. Practical Work Experience: The Practical Experience Evaluation Online Tool is made available for CMA Candidates enrolled in a Combined CMA/MBA Program. Professional Designation: Upon completion of these requirements, you will join the dynamic CMA designation. CMA Ontario will invite you to attend its exciting October convocation held at The Sheraton Harbour Castle in downtown Toronto. You’ll be officially awarded your CMA certificate and be formally welcomed as a member of CMA Canada. Your membership dues will be directed to CMA Ontario which will safeguard your professional interests and provide you with a variety of member services.
