CMA Accelerated Program

Once you successfully complete Sprott's MBA Program with a 70% average, you have an opportunity to acquire required credits that are missing among the 16 CMA prerequisite topics. This may be accomplished by enrolling in CMA Ontario's seven-month Accelerated Program to complete the Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Taxation components of the program. Lecture sessions are held on Saturdays and provide an in-depth look at management and financial accounting as well as the strategic business thinking required to make sound, leadership decisions. Individuals can opt to take the program via distance learning. An overall 60% is required to pass the Accelerated Program. This material forms the content of the Entrance Examination that will be administered upon completion of the Accelerated Program. Additional preparation and study time are required.

To be eligible for the CMA designation, candidates must successfully complete the following:

The CMA Canada Entrance Exam and Case Exam

In mid-June or mid-October, you will write the CMA Canada Entrance Examination. This is a four-hour multiple-choice exam where you will be examined on management accounting, financial accounting, corporate tax and corporate finance topics. In mid-May or August, you will write the CMA Case Examination which is based on your analysis of a complex business case. The process evaluates your higher level skills of judgment, analysis, evaluation, integration and communication. Two days prior to the Case Exam, you will be given a backgrounder on a hypothetical organization with the remainder to be provided on exam day. A passing minimum grade of 60% must be achieved in both the CMA Entrance Exam and the Case Exam.

You are permitted three attempts at each of the CMA Entrance Exam and the Case Exam. Candidates are encouraged to complete the CMA Ontario Entrance Exam Preparation Program prior to writing the Entrance Exam. They are also urged to attempt the CMA Entrance Examination immediately following the completion of the CMA Accelerated Program; however they may defer the CMA Entrance Examination and Case Exam until the next offering.

CMA Board Report

After passing the CMA Entrance and Case Exams, candidates must demonstrate that their business and accounting knowledge can be put to practical use by completing the CMA Canada Board Report. You will be required to prepare a Board Report that’s to be subsequently presented to a panel of CMA Ontario members. You will be given a module that provides case history information and the guidelines to help ensure a successful outcome. The written portion of the CMA Canada Board report, which is to be marked nationally, must be submitted by the first week of June. The verbal presentation will be scheduled in late June or early July and assessed by CMA Ontario. You must achieve a pass mark of 60% for the overall process.

Practical Work Experience

The Practical Experience Evaluation Online Tool is made available for the Society's Candidates enrolled in a Combined CMA/MBA Program.

CMA Designation

When all of these criteria are met, you’ll be ceremoniously welcomed into CMA Ontario at a gala October convocation, dinner and dance at The Westin Harbour Castle in downtown Toronto. You’ll be formally issued your CMA certificate and the celebration will continue throughout the evening.
