Post secondary degree graduates who have completed the required topics with a minimum grade of 60% in each undergraduate course or 70% in each graduate course are eligible to write the examination. Detailed Examination requirements may be viewed by clicking here.

Certified Management Accountants of Ontario has recently made changes to the 2012 CMA Competency Map. As a result of these changes, Canadian Business Law has been reintroduced as a requirement of the CMA Entrance Examination. CMA will now require 17 pre-requisite courses in order to sit for the Examination. CMA Ontario will be developing a bridging manual available in May 2012 that specific candidates will be eligible to use in order to qualify for their programs as a grandfather policy.

Candidates completing the CMA Accelerated Program up to and including the Fall 2013 intake will be eligible to take advantage of the free condensed Business Law Bridging manual/program.

Candidates that are directly writing the CMA Entrance Examination without completing the CMA Accelerated Program will be eligible to take advantage of the free condensed Business Law Bridging manual/program for both the October 2012 and June 2013 sitting.  Please note – candidates sitting for the June 2012 CMA Entrance Examination will not be required to complete the Canadian Business Law pre-requisite or Condensed Business Law Bridging manual/program.

Candidates completing the CMA Accelerated Program after the Fall 2013 session and candidates that are directly writing the CMA Entrance Examination without completing the CMA Accelerated Program after the June 2013 sitting will be required to satisfy the Canadian Business Law pre-requisite through a university credit or the CMA Ontario distance learning course.

The Entrance Examination is a comprehensive test of accounting knowledge gained through university studies. The testing focuses on the topic areas covered in the Entrance Examination as follows: Management Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Accounting and Taxation. A smaller portion of the examination (approximately 15%) will be devoted to the remaining CMA competencies. Please refer to the CMA Competency Map Entrance Requirements for a full listing of required topics.

The Entrance Examination is held twice each year, in mid-June and mid-October. The exam is four hours in duration and is comprised of 100-120 multiple choice questions.

The pass mark of the examination is 60%, and must be successfully completed to be eligible to enter the Strategic Leadership Program. Please click here for information on the CMA Entrance Examination.

CMA Ontario Entrance Examination Preparation Program

Included with the CMA Entrance Examination is the CMA Entrance Examination Preparation Program. Click here for the Entrance Examination and Preparation Program brochure. This valuable program provides students with the necessary tools required to be successful on the CMA Entrance Examination. The program covers the major CMA competency map topics, as well as multiple choice exam writing strategies. You will also be able to test your exam writing skills on two sample exams.

IFRS Component

The Entrance Examination tests students on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). CMA Ontario has developed an IFRS Bridging Manual to help students prepare for this topic. The Bridging Manual is available here. In addition, all students, upon registration for the Entrance Examination, will receive access to two online IFRS Bridging lecture videos.

Preparation Program Delivery Options

Students registering for the Entrance Examination may select one of two delivery options:

  1. In-class Preparation Program, including Entrance Examination and online IFRS Bridging Session.
  2. Distance/Online learning Preparation Program, including Entrance Examination and online IFRS Bridging Session.

There is limited availability for the in-class program so register early if that is your preferred option. For more flexibility, register for the distance/online programs, which use the latest online learning techniques.
