Mutual Recognition Agreements and Advanced Standing
Internationally
Trained Accountants
As a leading
international accounting body, CMA Canada actively pursues opportunities to enhance recognition and mobility
for its members in other countries and for professional management accountants from other countries in
Canada. Currently, there are three types of recognition offered by CMA Ontario to internationally trained
professionals in Ontario and the following section provides the guidelines for each:
Mutual
Recognition Agreements (MRA) Under a
Mutual Recognition Agreement, there is a reciprocal granting of professional designations for qualifying
members of CMA Canada and the other body. The eligibility requirements are set by each body based on an
extensive review of each other's accreditation policies and programs. CMA Ontario is pleased to announce that
Mutual Recognition Agreements have been signed with the following international accounting bodies:
New MRAs are
regularly considered, so please keep checking back on this page for updates.
Professional
Advanced Standing Professional
Advanced Standing Under CMA Ontario's Professional Advanced Standing policy, special advanced standing in the
CMA Canada accreditation process is granted for qualifying members of a recognized body. The eligibility
requirements and advanced standing granted are set by CMA Canada based on an extensive review of the
accreditation policies and programs of the other body. CMA Ontario is pleased to announce that Professional
Advanced Standing recognition has been granted to qualifying members of the following international
accounting bodies:
Advanced
Standing Other
foreign-accredited professionals with university degrees and other foreign university degree holders are
eligible for advanced standing in individual CMA Prerequisite Studies topics based on the specific courses
they have successfully completed through a bachelors degree equivalent. Further information is provided in
Your Next Step and in the following CMA Career Map:
Courses may also
be evaluated to determine prerequisites to the Accelerated Program.
Please note that
advanced standing does not remove the requirement to pass the CMA National Entrance Exam and to successfully
complete the entire Strategic Leadership Program.
Mutual
Recognition Agreements (MRA)
Mutual
Recognition Agreement with CPA Australia
The Mutual
Recognition Agreement between CMA Canada and CPA Australia strengthens an already excellent relationship
between these two leading accounting organizations. The agreement offers a wealth of opportunities to members
of both bodies, among them enhanced international professional recognition and mobility.
The landmark
alliance identifies areas for mutually beneficial joint initiatives, including educational and professional
development, and research and advocacy. The partnership highlights the increasingly global nature of the
profession and the growing movement toward international knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Members who work
internationally or for multinational firms will find the benefits of the agreement especially valuable. The
