Combined Master’s Program Application Welcome to a winning combination for individuals with an undergraduate degree in business and at least two years of relevant experience: The opportunity to become a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) while earning the Queen’s MBA. This dynamic, dual accomplishment is possible through a combined MBA-CMA program offered at Queen's. A partnership was struck in January, 2005, with both institutions dedicated to providing progressive, relevant business and accounting theory with a strong focus on leadership, strategic decision making, and a practical focus on business application. It was designed to enable participants to remain in their full-time positions and earn an income while pursuing their MBA and CMA. Take a few minutes to investigate this unique opportunity. You’ll save significant time and money by concurrently earning these credentials instead of achieving them individually. You may be required to take the CMA Accelerated Program to cover your missing CMA prerequisite courses after completing your Queen’s MBA studies. You will then write the CMA Entrance Examination and the CMA Case Examination and prepare the Board Report. You must also acquire 24 months of related, practical learning experience approved by CMA Ontario (past experience may qualify). As a Queen’s MBA grad, you are waived from the two-year Strategic Leadership Program, interactive classroom sessions that conceptualize learning acquired in the field. How Do You Benefit? If you're a professional who wants to become more effective in your management role and are aspiring to become a senior business leader, you will benefit enormously from this lucrative learning opportunity. You'll acquire a world-class degree that lays the groundwork for earning an internationally-recognized accounting designation. Participants acquiring an MBA and a CMA designation through a combined program will save substantial time and money over those pursuing the degree and designation separately. In some cases, employers will pay the fees associated with one or both programs. A recent survey of Ontario job placement ads indicated that 85% of accounting and senior level management positions required a professional accounting designation of their candidates. Job prospects expand when business school graduates are equipped with a professional accounting certificate. Additional doors are opened with a CMA designation because its skill set is diverse and applicable to virtually every organization and every aspect of business operations. The choices are practically limitless. Our expertise is initially gleaned through an academic approach that is later reinforced through practical application in real world situations. Armed with this unique blend of text book and applied learning, newly-certified CMAs hit the ground running and quickly find employment opportunities in any number of fields. As leaders in management accounting, our expertise is grounded in three pillars of foundational knowledge: accounting, management and strategy. Our capacity to independently focus on each element or, alternatively, to amalgamate information from all three, is becoming increasingly relevant to today’s business environment. Our ability to breathe life into numbers by understanding their implications and making strategic decisions based on them, adds tremendous value to any department of any business. Many CEOs and CFOs are CMAs whose abilities as articulate communicators, team players, creative thinkers and problem solvers were recognized and sought for these leadership positions. MBA candidates who are missing CMA pre-requisite topics may be required to take the CMA Accelerated Program. They must also write the CMA Canada Entrance Examination and Case Examination, and complete a comprehensive Board Report. As graduates of Queen’s MBA program, candidates are exempt from the Strategic Leadership Program which provides classroom sessions for participants to analyze and compare business scenarios concurrently with their work experience. More detailed information about these processes is available in the “Requirements” section. Upon completion of these requirements, you will qualify for professional designation as a Certified Management Accountant. Your Next Step To determine your status or to enrol in the CMA program, please send your recent Queen’s MBA university transcripts and any previous university degree transcripts to the CMA Ontario Accreditation Department for a free evaluation by fax at 416-977-2128.
